The collector's guide

Disney Lorcana: what to collect and where to start

Lorcana turns familiar Disney characters into new versions called glimmers. The First Chapter is the starting point for the original Enchanted cards, Fabled adds Epic and Iconic rarities, and Hyperia City brings Coco into the game. Explore the sets, learn the six inks, and compare the exact printings you want to collect.

What are glimmers?

A glimmer is Lorcana's version of a Disney character. These three Elsa cards show how one character can appear in different forms.

Two inks on one card

Dual-ink cards belong to two inks. Bolt - Superdog combines Amber and Steel, and Jafar - Newly Crowned combines Amethyst and Steel, each shown by the two ink symbols on the card. In a standard constructed deck, you need both inks to include it.

Rarity, foil and special artwork

Two cards can show the same character and still be very different finds. Start with the rarity symbol, then check the artwork, finish and collector number.

  • Rarity tells you the tier

Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare and Legendary are Lorcana’s original regular-card rarities. Epic, Enchanted and Iconic add special collecting targets in the sets that include them. The rarity symbol sits near the bottom of the card.

  • Cold Foil is a finish

A Cold Foil is a shiny version of a card, rather than a rarity of its own. A Common can be Cold Foil, and so can a Legendary. Compare the full name and collector number: the normal and foil versions can share the same artwork and game text.

  • One foil doesn’t mean one chase card

A standard 12-card Lorcana booster includes a foil card of a random rarity. That foil might be a regular card with a shiny finish. It does not guarantee an Epic, Enchanted or Iconic.

What makes the special cards special?

The artwork and treatment matter as much as the rarity name. Here’s what to look for.

  • Epic

Mickey Mouse - Standard Bearer (Epic), 221/204Mickey Mouse - Standard Bearer (Epic)

Introduced in Fabled, Epic cards use borderless artwork, rainbow foil, foil icons and tinted text. Ravensburger places them between Legendary and Enchanted in rarity.

  • Enchanted

Mickey Mouse - Steamboat Pilot (Enchanted), 231/204Mickey Mouse - Steamboat Pilot (Enchanted)

Enchanted cards give familiar cards a special-art printing with its own collector number. Their treatment changes between releases: Fabled introduced rainbow-foil hot stamping and a foil rarity symbol. Check the exact set and printing when adding one to your Needs list.

  • Iconic

Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Prince (Iconic), 242/204Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Prince (Iconic)

Iconic debuted in Fabled with full-card artwork, a custom lore-star foil pattern and dimensional hot-stamp effects. These are premium collector targets with a different look from an ordinary foil. Open the exact card to compare its current Market Price and available listings.

Beyond the boosters: Lorcana promo cards

Not every Lorcana card comes from a booster pack. Some cards are released for special events, organized play, or particular products. These promotional printings give collectors another way to explore the game and the moments surrounding it.

A promo may feature a familiar character, but that does not make it the same collectible as the card found in a regular set. The specific printing matters. Our Lorcana catalog includes dedicated checklists for Disney Lorcana Promo Cards, D23 Promos, and Disney100 Promos, so you can explore them separately from the main sets.

  • A D23 promo

Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Tailor, 1Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Tailor

This Mickey printing appears in our D23 Promos checklist. D23 cards are a reminder that collecting Lorcana can be about more than completing a set. A particular printing gives collectors another way to celebrate a favorite character.

  • A prerelease promo

The Queen - Conceited Ruler, 3The Queen - Conceited Ruler

Our catalog identifies this Cold Foil printing as a prerelease promo. Prerelease cards give collectors a way to remember the excitement around a new release. When you compare one with a regular-set card, pay attention to the exact set, number, and finish.

  • A buy-a-box promo

Alice - Accidentally Adrift, 2Alice - Accidentally Adrift

This Cold Foil printing is cataloged as a buy-a-box promo. Some promotional cards are tied to purchasing a particular product rather than opening random packs. That makes the way a card was distributed part of its collecting story.

Explore the promo checklists

Where do promos come from?

Promos can be connected to events, organized play, prereleases, special products, and other promotions. Different cards have different distribution stories. Use each item’s catalog details to learn what is recorded about that particular printing.

Check the printing, not just the character

A promo and a regular card can share a character or name without being the same collectible. Compare the set, card number, finish, and any identifying details before deciding which version belongs in your collection.

Choose what to open

Packs for a surprise, a box for a bigger opening, or a ready-made deck to start playing.

Looking for one missing card? Open its Collectiblz item page to compare the exact printing and available listings. Check the specific release for package contents.

Your Lorcana checklist is already here

Open Lorcana in the Collectiblz app, filter by set or finish, and mark your Haves and Needs.

Collect Stitch your way

Search for Stitch and favorite that search in the app. Return to the matching cards across sets and keep track of the ones you still need.

What counts as a master set?

Collectors define it differently. Some collect normal and foil versions; others include special-art cards and promos. Choose your goal, then use the existing checklist and filters to track it.

Three sets worth exploring

Want to play, too?

Those Disney characters are part of a game as well as a collection. Ravensburger’s short video lessons explain setting up, using ink and taking your turn. Start there, then keep the quick-start rules nearby for your first game.
