McDonald's Happy Meal POG 2019 - Batgirl 2 Spinning Top Collectible

Welcome back, drive-thru collectors - grab a coffee and pull up a seat!
Today we're spinning into the McDonald's Happy Meal POG 2019 wave, and more specifically, one of its standout DC Super Hero Girls entries: Batgirl 2. If you've been tracking the POG 2019 set piece by piece, you already know this is a wave with serious range - and Batgirl 2 is one of the pieces worth slowing down for.
About the POG 2019 Wave
The POG 2019 promotion was a European McDonald's Happy Meal release built around the classic POG disc format - flat, collectible discs and spinning tops designed for flipping and stacking play. What made this particular wave remarkable was its sheer scope. McDonald's loaded the set with characters drawn from multiple Warner Bros. properties under one umbrella release, creating one of the more ambitious Happy Meal promo assortments in recent memory.
On the DC side, the POG 2019 set featured an extensive run of DC Super Hero Girls collectible discs - numbered entries running well into the forties, alongside character-specific spinning tops. On the Looney Tunes side, the wave covered Bugs Bunny, Tweety, Sylvester, Taz, Daffy Duck, Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, Marvin the Martian, and Speedy Gonzales - multiple discs per character in many cases. The Scooby-Doo roster was equally deep, featuring Scooby-Doo, Sammy, Daphne, Fred, and the Mystery Machine across a wide range of illustrated scenes. Additional spinning tops in the wave carried original designs including Haunted Manor, Graveyard, Mummy, Ghost, and general gameplay-themed pieces like Victory, Rules, and Let's Go!
It was a collector's feast spread across a surprisingly long run, and Batgirl was represented across multiple discs in the set - making Batgirl 2 a distinct entry with its own pose, design, and disc art separate from the Batgirl 1 spinning top, Batgirl's Portrait disc, and the Batgirl Rescuing illustration.
Batgirl 2 - The Disc Itself
As with the other POG 2019 spinning tops, Batgirl 2 is a hard plastic disc designed for both play and display. The form factor is classic POG: lightweight, slammable, and designed to hold up to tabletop action. The disc art features Barbara Gordon in her DC Super Hero Girls suit - the animated series version that leaned into a bold, modern superhero aesthetic rather than the more traditional comic-book look.
The colors are strong and the print is clean. Like most of this wave, the plastic feels sturdy without being heavy. It's a small toy - no articulation, no moving parts - but within the POG format it reads as a high-quality entry. The disc design is two-sided with the character art clearly visible on the main face. As a standalone spinner, it functions exactly as intended.
What makes Batgirl 2 interesting from a collector's standpoint is that this wave went to the trouble of creating multiple distinct Batgirl discs rather than reusing the same art across positions. That kind of attention to variety is exactly what separates a set worth completing from a set worth skimming.
Wave Context and Set Completeness
The POG 2019 wave is notably difficult to collect in full. The set spans Looney Tunes, DC Super Hero Girls, Scooby-Doo, and original designs - and each sub-category runs deep. The DC Super Hero Girls subset alone includes discs numbered across a wide range, with multiple entries for Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Katana in addition to Batgirl's several appearances. Characters like the Joker, Robin, Green Lantern, and Flash are also represented, making this one of the most DC-dense Happy Meal POG assortments released in the modern era.
Within the DC sub-wave, Batgirl 2 sits comfortably as one of the main-character pieces. It is not a filler disc - Batgirl was clearly positioned as a lead character across this set, and having multiple versions of her reflects her prominence in the DC Super Hero Girls animated universe that was active during this period.
Collector Notes
- Play value: Classic POG play is built right in - these discs were made to be flipped, stacked, and slammed. Kids respond well to the format and it holds up in active use.
- Display value: At this scale, POG discs work well in flat storage trays, binder pages, or small shadow box frames grouped by character or franchise. The DC Super Hero Girls subset especially displays nicely as a themed block.
- Durability: The hard plastic holds up well. No soft materials to crack or fade - these discs are built for longevity.
- Rarity and shelf appeal: Because the POG 2019 wave was so large and split across multiple characters, individual discs in excellent condition are not trivial to find years later. Batgirl 2 in clean shape is a keeper.
- Wave importance: Completing the DC Super Hero Girls subset is the realistic goal for most collectors - hunting the full POG 2019 set across all three character universes is a longer-term project worth approaching systematically.
Storage and Display Ideas
POG discs are ideal candidates for clear-pocket binder pages - they fit neatly and stay visible without handling. For shelf display, small acrylic risers or grid-style display cases let you show the character art face-forward. Grouping the DC Super Hero Girls discs together by hero makes the most visual sense, and the Batgirl entries sit well next to Supergirl and Wonder Woman for a natural lineup. Keep them away from direct sunlight to preserve the print quality over time.
I have this one marked as collected in the Collectiblz app - I picked it up as part of a broader POG 2019 lot and was glad to pull a clean copy. If you're building out your own DC Super Hero Girls POG run, the app makes it easy to track what you have, what you still need, and which pieces in the wave are still open in your collection.
