McDonald's The LEGO Movie Happy Meal WyldStyle Cup 2014

McDonald's The LEGO Movie Happy Meal WyldStyle Cup 2014

Welcome back to the table, fellow Happy Meal hunters! 🍔

If you've ever found yourself digging through a bin at a thrift store or refreshing an eBay listing at midnight, you already know the particular joy of tracking down a promo piece that feels like it vanished the moment it showed up at the drive-thru. Today we're looking at one of my favorite examples of that feeling - the McDonald's The LEGO Movie Happy Meal Cup wave from 2014, with the spotlight firmly on WyldStyle, Cup No. 2 in the complete set of eight.

Released in February 2014 to coincide with the theatrical debut of The LEGO Movie, these cups had a very short run - available at U.S. McDonald's locations from approximately February 4 through February 24 of that year. A three-week window. That is not a lot of time to catch all eight, and the secondary market has been reminding collectors of that fact ever since.

What Makes the WyldStyle Cup Worth Talking About

The LEGO Movie cup wave was not a traditional sculpted figurine set. These are lithographic plastic tumblers - roughly 13 oz., made from durable translucent plastic - featuring lenticular or holographic wrap-around artwork that shifts and animates when you tilt the cup. The effect is genuinely impressive for a fast-food promo piece. Rather than a static printed label, the character imagery has depth and movement, giving the cup a premium feel that stands out from standard Happy Meal drinkware.

WyldStyle's cup features her in a dynamic action pose - dark hair, graphic streetwear aesthetic, the color palette leaning into her confident, no-nonsense personality. The lenticular effect makes the image pop in a way that photographs cannot quite capture. You really have to hold one and angle it in different directions to get the full picture. In terms of graphic quality and print registration, the WyldStyle cup is one of the sharper entries in the wave - her design has strong contrast and crisp linework that holds up well.

The cups are made of rigid, fairly thick plastic with a secure base. They feel sturdy enough for actual use, which was the intent - these are functional drinkware pieces, not display-only items. That said, the condition of the lenticular wrap is everything for collectors. Cups that were used extensively often show scuffing or separation at the wrap edges, so finding an unused or sealed example makes a significant difference in long-term display appeal.

The lenticular cup format is underappreciated in the Kids' Meal collector space. When the print quality is this good and the character representation is this on-brand, you are looking at a small piece of movie tie-in history that doubles as genuinely fun display material. The WyldStyle cup, in particular, holds its own on a shelf.

The Complete 2014 Lego Movie Cup Set

WyldStyle is Cup No. 2 in a set of eight, and the full lineup is a who's who of the film's cast. Here is the complete wave:

  • No. 1 - Emmet - The everyman hero, optimistic expression and all
  • No. 2 - WyldStyle - The subject of this review, action-ready and sharp
  • No. 3 - Batman - The LEGO Batman version, dark and dramatic as expected
  • No. 4 - Unikitty - Bright, colorful, and probably the most visually striking cup in the wave
  • No. 5 - Good Cop/Bad Cop - A clever double-sided character concept that works well in lenticular format
  • No. 6 - MetalBeard - The massive, mechanical pirate gets appropriately bold treatment
  • No. 7 - Vitruvius - The sage wizard, rendered with aged gravitas
  • No. 8 - President Business (Lord Business) - The villain, and a very satisfying cap to the set

Completing all eight cups is the real collector challenge here. Batman and WyldStyle tend to be the most sought-after individually due to character popularity, which means they can be harder to find at a fair price. Unikitty draws in a separate crowd of fans beyond the standard promo-toy collector base. Good Cop/Bad Cop and MetalBeard are often the easier finds. If you are building toward a complete set, prioritize No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 early - they move fastest.

Collector Notes

From a pure display standpoint, this wave offers something a little different from the typical sculpted figure set. Eight cups lined up in order look genuinely great on a dedicated shelf - the lenticular artwork has enough variation in color and composition that the row never feels repetitive. Because they are functional items, the cups also work well in a more casual display context, like a kitchen shelf or desk arrangement, without looking out of place the way small plastic figures sometimes do.

For long-term condition, keep them out of direct sunlight. The lenticular wrapping can fade and the adhesive can weaken with prolonged UV exposure. If you have examples that are still sealed in their original packaging, that is the ideal storage scenario. Loose cups in clean condition are still very displayable, but inspect the wrap edges carefully before purchasing.

The play value here is limited compared to articulated figures, but that is not really the point. This is a character drinkware collectible with a strong movie tie-in and a confirmed limited release window. For adult collectors, the appeal is nostalgia and completeness. For casual fans who caught the film and grabbed one of these cups in the drive-thru in February 2014, finding a second or third to complete the set has become a satisfying long-term hunt.

I picked up the WyldStyle cup a while back at a vintage toy show - it was still sealed, which was a genuine surprise - and I have it marked in my Collectiblz app. If you are tracking your own LEGO Movie cup collection, Collectiblz makes it easy to see at a glance which numbers you have and which you still need.
