McDonald's Happy Meal Megamind (2010) Toy - Megamind Figure

McDonald's Happy Meal Megamind (2010) Toy - Megamind Figure

Welcome Back to the Drive-Thru, Collectors!

If you were swinging through the McDonald's drive-thru in the fall of 2010 and cracking open Happy Meal boxes, there is a good chance you stumbled onto one of the most fun animated movie tie-ins of that year: the Megamind Happy Meal wave. DreamWorks Animation released the film in November 2010, and McDonald's came through with a full lineup of figures to match the buzz. Today I am spotlighting the star of the show - the Megamind figure himself, that big-brained blue villain turned unlikely hero, in miniature Happy Meal form.

First Look: The Main Character in Plastic

The Megamind figure captures the character's most iconic physical traits right out of the gate. That enormous blue dome of a head is front and center, proportionally exaggerated in just the right way to make the figure instantly recognizable to anyone who saw the film. He is posed in a confident, slightly theatrical stance - one hand out, chin up - which feels very true to how the character carries himself on screen. The scale is compact, as expected for a Happy Meal piece, sitting at roughly two to three inches tall. The plastic feel is solid enough without being heavy, and the molded detail on the black suit and silver accents is cleanly executed for a promo toy at this price point.

The paint applications on this figure are worth mentioning because they hold up better than some of its wave-mates. The blue on the head is consistent, the cape detail reads clearly, and the face printing - always a make-or-break element on small figures - captures Megamind's expressive, slightly smug expression without looking blurry or off-center. For a 2010 fast-food piece, the paint quality is genuinely respectable.

The Full Megamind (2010) Wave

The Megamind Happy Meal wave was a generous one, and that is part of what makes it so satisfying to chase as a collector. The lineup included:

  • Megamind - the blue-headed villain himself (today's spotlight)
  • Minion - Megamind's loyal robot sidekick fish in the gorilla suit, with a spinning action feature
  • Metro Man - the muscle-bound superhero rival, posed heroically
  • Tighten - Hal/Titan, the bumbling replacement hero turned villain, in his cape-and-suit look
  • Brainbot Green and Blue - one of several Brainbot variants, the small robotic minions that populate Megamind's lair
  • Brainbot Green and Purple - another Brainbot color variant
  • Brainbot Orange and Purple - the third Brainbot variant in the wave
  • Snapper Brainbot - a Brainbot with a mechanical jaw snapping action
  • Light Effects Brainbot - a Brainbot with an integrated light feature
  • Voice Distorter Brainbot - the interactive standout of the wave, with a built-in voice modifier

Ten pieces total, which is a solid wave count for a Happy Meal tie-in. The Brainbots in particular deserve recognition as a collector decision - rather than padding the wave with duplicate character figures, McDonald's leaned into the lore and gave us multiple variants of the robotic minions, each with a different color combo or play feature. That kind of wave design keeps the assortment interesting and gives completists plenty to hunt.

The Megamind wave is a strong example of a Happy Meal set that actually represents the film's world well. You get the main cast AND the supporting robots, and the Brainbot variants give the wave real depth for collectors who want to go beyond just the hero and villain figures.

Collector Notes

The Megamind figure himself is the clear display anchor of the wave. His silhouette is unique enough to read immediately on a shelf - that head shape is unmistakable - and he holds up well next to the other figures in terms of size consistency. Among the four character figures in the wave, Megamind and Minion are the strongest sculpts. Metro Man is a bit plain, and Tighten leans generic, but the Brainbots add personality to any grouping.

From a play value standpoint, the Megamind figure is more of a display piece than an interactive toy. The Snapper Brainbot and Voice Distorter Brainbot are the play-forward choices in this wave. For adult collectors, though, the main figure is the one worth protecting in a bag or small display case - it is the face of the property and the most visually striking piece in the set.

Long-term shelf appeal is solid. Megamind has genuine nostalgic staying power for anyone who grew up watching it, and the Happy Meal figures represent a real slice of that 2010 cultural moment. Grouping the complete set together on a shelf - all ten pieces from Megamind down through the Brainbots - makes for a fun, cohesive display that holds its own next to other classic waves from that era.

Storage and Display Tips

This wave groups beautifully when displayed together. Arrange the four character figures in the back row with the Brainbots clustered in front, and the effect is very close to Megamind's actual lair aesthetic. A shallow shelf tray or a divided organizer works well for keeping small figures upright and visible. If you are mixing this wave in with other 2010 releases, group by year or by DreamWorks franchise for the cleanest visual flow.

I picked this one up on a lunch run right when the promotion was running - grabbed the Megamind figure specifically because that head sculpt was impossible to pass up. It is marked in my Collectiblz app, and if you are tracking your own Happy Meal collection, the app makes it easy to log every piece in the wave and keep tabs on what you still need to find.
