2025 Topps Chrome Disney #164b Mei Lee VARVAR: In Red Panda Form - Transformation Chrome Magic
Hey there, Disney card collectors! 🎴✨
Happy collecting, friends! If you're like me, you absolutely loved Turning Red when it hit Disney+, and you've been waiting for Mei Lee to get the Chrome treatment she deserves. Well, guess what? The 2025 Topps Chrome Disney #164b Mei Lee VARVAR: In Red Panda Form card is here, and it's every bit as magical and fierce as Mei herself when she transforms!
This isn't just any Mei Lee card - this is the VARVAR (variation) version showing Mei in her full red panda glory. I remember watching Turning Red for the first time and absolutely losing it when Mei woke up as a giant red panda. That moment of panic, confusion, and eventually empowerment? This card captures all of it. The Chrome finish makes her red fur absolutely pop with this gorgeous shimmer that reminds me of the Neon parallels we love from the Disney Neon sets.
Card Details and Visual Magic
What makes this variation so special is the composition. Mei is depicted in her red panda form - fluffy, adorable, and powerful all at once. The Topps Chrome treatment does incredible justice to the rich reds and warm tones of her panda fur. Under the right light, the refractor technology creates this prismatic effect that makes it look like Mei is literally glowing with the same energy she has in the film.
The card features the classic Topps Chrome Disney border with the 2025 branding, and that #164b designation lets you know immediately that this is the special variant. The background captures that Toronto vibe from the movie - you can practically hear "Nobody Like U" playing when you look at it!
Sometimes the best version of yourself is the one you've been hiding - let your true colors shine!
I'm absolutely adding this to my need list in the Collectiblz app because it's the perfect companion piece to the base #164 Mei card. Tracking both versions together really tells her story - the girl she tries to be and the panda she embraces. If you're building the complete 2025 Topps Chrome Disney set or focusing on collecting all the Pixar characters like I am, you definitely want both versions in your binder.
Collector Notes and Context
VARVAR cards in the Topps Chrome Disney lineup are always exciting because they show alternate poses, forms, or moments that give us more of the character's story. For Mei Lee, having her red panda transformation as the variation card makes perfect sense - it's literally the heart of her journey! These variations tend to be slightly harder to pull than base cards, making them great trade bait if you're trying to complete your set or land that elusive insert you've been chasing.
This card fits beautifully into the broader Topps Disney ecosystem. If you're collecting Turning Red specifically, pair this with any Turning Red inserts or parallel cards. If you're a Pixar completist like me, this joins your Turning Red, Inside Out, Coco, and other modern Pixar cards perfectly. And if you love transformation cards - think Beast, Elsa's ice magic, or Maui's shapeshifting variants - this red panda beauty belongs right next to them!
Display and Storage Ideas
For a card this special, I'd recommend a premium top loader at minimum. The Chrome finish is stunning but can show fingerprints easily, so handle with care! If you're considering grading, the VARVAR designation could make this a strong candidate, especially in gem mint condition. In a binder, I love displaying the base #164 and this #164b side by side in a two-pocket page - it's like showing Mei's before-and-after transformation right there on the page.
You could also create a themed display around strong female Disney and Pixar characters who embrace their power - Mei, Moana, Mulan, Elsa, Raya, and Merida would make an incredible showcase together! Add some of the 2026 Topps Disney Neon parallels for extra pop, and you've got a display that tells a story of courage and self-acceptance.
This card reminds me why I fell in love with Disney trading cards in the first place - they capture these perfect character moments that take us right back to how we felt watching the movie. Whether you're team red panda or team human Mei, this Chrome variant deserves a spot in your collection!
Happy collecting, and may your packs be full of Chrome magic! 💖 Tilly
