The 1978 Red Nose Reindeer PEZ Dispenser Is the Rare No-Feet Vintage Christmas Treasure Every Collector Has to Find
A Holiday Icon from PEZ History
If there is one vintage PEZ dispenser that captures everything wonderful about holiday collecting, it is the 1978 Red Nose Reindeer. Officially introduced by PEZ as part of their classic no-feet era, this dispenser brings together Christmas nostalgia, vintage craftsmanship, and genuine rarity in one compact little package. For anyone serious about PEZ collecting, it belongs on the shelf.
The 1978 Red Nose Reindeer PEZ dispenser is part of the celebrated no-feet generation, a production era before PEZ added the small stabilizing feet to the base of their stems. Dispensers from this period are immediately recognizable to collectors and carry extra historical weight because of how they fit into the broader PEZ timeline.
Character Sculpt and Physical Details
The design centers on Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the beloved holiday character whose story has been a seasonal staple since the 1940s. The stem is a warm brown, transitioning naturally into the character head, which features a tan-toned face sculpt with gentle, friendly features. The iconic detail, of course, is the bright red nose, painted with the kind of simple, expressive paint application that defines vintage PEZ character work.
The no-feet stem sits flush at the bottom, which gives the dispenser a slightly different silhouette compared to later versions. There is something immediately vintage about the proportions. The head is compact, the sculpt is uncomplicated but charming, and the whole thing communicates holiday cheer without any fuss.

What Makes This One Stand Out
The no-feet detail is the defining collector feature here. PEZ made the switch to footed stems in the 1980s, so any no-feet dispenser from this era is a genuine artifact of an earlier production window. That transition point in PEZ manufacturing history makes 1978 releases especially interesting to date-focused collectors.
There is something grounding about holding a 1978 PEZ dispenser. You are holding a piece of candy history that predates most of the modern collector market. The no-feet stem tells you exactly where it sits in the PEZ timeline, and for those of us who love the vintage era, that context is everything.
Collector Notes
The 1978 Red Nose Reindeer is considered genuinely rare among vintage holiday PEZ dispensers. Dispensers from this era that survived in good condition, with clean paint apps and no significant stem discoloration, are increasingly hard to find. The Austria stamp on original production pieces is a key authentication marker collectors look for.
This dispenser appeals to a wide range of collectors: PEZ enthusiasts focused on the no-feet era, holiday and Christmas collectibles collectors, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer fans, and vintage toy hunters who simply appreciate the craftsmanship of pre-1980s PEZ production. It crosses multiple collecting interests, which makes it a particularly satisfying find.
For display, the 1978 Red Nose Reindeer works beautifully in a dedicated Christmas or holiday PEZ grouping. Pair it with other vintage holiday dispensers, or display it alongside modern holiday PEZ releases to show the evolution of the character across decades. The no-feet base gives it a slightly lower, more compact profile that stands out even in a full collection.
