LEGO Disney and Pixar Lotso (43306): The Cuddly Villain Gets a Brilliant Brick-Built Makeover

Hey builders! This month's LEGO Disney lineup dropped something I genuinely did not expect to love this much: a proper brick-built figure of Lotso from Toy Story 3. 🧱 Set 43306, priced at just $39.99, packs 570 pieces into one of the most expressive character builds I've seen in this price range. Buckle up because this one is packed with clever engineering.
Meet the Lavender Villain (Well, Former Villain)
Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear is one of those characters who walks the line between cuddly and unsettling, and LEGO absolutely nailed that duality here. The completed model stands just over 6.5 inches tall (about 16 cm), clutching his signature walking stick, with poseable arms, hands, and a head tilt that gives him remarkable personality for a plastic figure. You can also reconfigure the legs so Lotso sits down, dropping his center of gravity and making him look like he's casually lounging on a daycare shelf waiting for his next scheme. ✨
570 Pieces, Studless Finish, and Loads of Technique
The exterior of the build is almost entirely SNOT (studs not on top), giving Lotso that smooth, plush-toy appearance that makes him look cuddly despite being made of ABS plastic. A few stud patches remain intentionally visible -- a small belly area and the top of the head -- which actually reinforces the character's toy-like charm rather than being a shortcut.
The articulation is the real star. Shoulder, wrist, and neck joints are embedded inside the body structure so you never see ugly grey Technic pins poking out. The head connection allows a subtle tilt that sells the personality of the character more than any printed element could. The moveable eyebrows are another nice touch that push this from "display piece" to "conversation starter."
The way the shoulder joints are hidden inside Lotso's torso build is exactly the kind of design decision that makes you pause mid-build and think -- yeah, someone at LEGO really thought this through.
Easter Eggs Worth Finding
Open up Lotso's belly and you'll find four small stud stacks representing other Toy Story characters -- Woody and Buzz are in there along with others. There's also a 1x1 round tile printed with a strawberry, a nod to Lotso's fruit-scented core in the films. 🚀 It's the kind of detail that rewards builders who slow down and pay attention. The canopy piece on Lotso's back also hides a neat storage trick: the 3x3 curved corner slopes you remove when switching to the sitting pose stow neatly behind it, so you won't lose parts between poses.
Color, Part Highlights, and Theme Fit
The color palette leans into Lotso's classic pink and white with lavender accents. Nothing about the part selection screams "I needed a special mold," which is a compliment -- LEGO's standard brick vocabulary is doing a lot of work here through clever geometry. If you're already building in the Disney character figure space (Stitch, Moana, etc.), Lotso fits right in aesthetically. He's a natural shelf neighbor for any Toy Story fan's collection.
Price-per-part lands at about $0.07 per piece, which is solid for a licensed character figure. You're not paying a premium for a minifig, but you're getting a premium result.
Display Ideas and Collector Notes
Lotso looks fantastic in his standing pose on a shelf or desk, walking stick in hand, head tilted just slightly. If you want to build a small diorama, a Sunnyside Daycare vibe with some printed tile flooring and a couple of chairs would frame him perfectly. The sitting pose also works well in a lower-profile display case. Rebrickable has some alt builds in the works for 43306 if you want to squeeze more creativity out of the 570 pieces after your first build.
This set is great for Disney fans, Toy Story completionists, AFOL character-figure collectors, and anyone who wants a satisfying intermediate build that punches way above its $39.99 price point. I've got mine tracked in the app -- it's a definite HAVE for the Disney shelf. 🏗️
