2025 Topps Chrome Disney: Base Set Yen Sid (#191) - The Mysterious Sorcerer Shines in Chrome Splendor!

A Sorcerer Worthy of Chrome o
There is something quietly powerful about Yen Sid. He does not announce himself with fanfare or beg for your attention. He simply IS, enormous and ancient, seated at his workbench in that tall, star-crowned tower, and the magic flows from him like something inevitable. When I first spotted card #191 in the 2025 Topps Chrome Disney base set, that familiar hush came over me, the same feeling I get standing in the shadow of Cinderella Castle just before the lights come up for the nighttime spectacular. Some things are simply awe-inspiring, and Yen Sid is one of them. Y
Card #191 features the great sorcerer himself, rendered in Topps Chrome's signature refractor-ready stock. The Chrome treatment suits Yen Sid perfectly: the deep midnight blues and purples of his robes pick up light in ways that feel genuinely magical, and the shimmering surface gives his expression, grave, knowing, just a touch impatient, a presence that a flat card simply could not capture. This is a man who has seen centuries of spellwork, and the Chrome finish makes him feel timeless. YZ
The Sorcerer Behind the Story
Yen Sid first appeared in the 1940 Disney masterpiece Fantasia, in the iconic "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" segment. His name is Disney spelled backwards, a charming little Easter egg that Walt's team tucked in for anyone paying close attention, and the character was reportedly modeled after Walt Disney himself. I have always loved that detail. There is something poetic about the man who conjured an entire animated world being immortalized as the all-powerful sorcerer who can barely keep his apprentice out of trouble.
In the segment, Mickey borrows the sorcerer's star-and-moon-studded hat while Yen Sid steps away from his workbench. The brooms multiply, the water rises, chaos reigns, and then Yen Sid returns. One look from him is enough. The floodwaters recede, the brooms snap back into stillness, and Mickey sheepishly returns the hat. It is a three-minute lesson in the difference between power and wisdom, and it has never stopped being one of my favorite pieces of Disney storytelling.
"There is a certain stillness that only comes from knowing exactly how powerful you are and choosing not to prove it." That is Yen Sid in a sentence, and honestly, it is a quality I try to channel when I am organizing my card binders. o
Where He Sits in the 2025 Topps Chrome Disney Set
The 2025 Topps Chrome Disney base set runs 200 cards and spans an enormous swath of Disney's animated history, from classics like Fantasia and Cinderella all the way through Pixar, Disney Channel, and theme park icons. Card #191 puts Yen Sid in great company near the tail end of the checklist, neighbors with Magic Broom (#190) and Raya (#192), which means the Fantasia magic flows right into a Raya and the Last Dragon moment. The set rewards collectors who appreciate depth across Disney's entire canon.
The Chrome refractor rainbow includes the standard Base Refractor, as well as colored parallels in Blue, Gold, Orange, Red, and the ultra-rare Superfractor. Hobby boxes deliver six refractors per box, while Mega and Value Blaster configurations offer three and two respectively. The base card itself is relatively accessible, making it a wonderful centerpiece for any Disney classics-themed collection without requiring a dramatic investment. For a card featuring one of Fantasia's most compelling figures, that is a genuine gift to collectors.
A Personal Fantasia Memory YZ?
I remember seeing the Sorcerer's Apprentice sequence on a giant screen at Epcot's Magic Eye Theater area years ago, one of those ambient loop moments that Disney parks do better than anywhere else on earth. The combination of Dukas's music swelling through those speakers and Mickey's increasingly panicked face on screen had the whole crowd alternating between laughter and genuine awe. I thought about Yen Sid the entire time: how the movie trusts you to understand his power without ever needing him to throw a single dramatic spell. He just cleans up the mess and looks at Mickey. Perfect.
Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom fans, this one is for you too. Yen Sid and his tower are woven into the DNA of that beloved park game, and I still have my spell cards tucked away in a top-loader sleeve alongside some of my earliest Topps Disney pickups. Card #191 would look extraordinary next to a Kingdom of Wisdom card if you want to build a thematic display.
Display and Storage Ideas
For a card with this kind of gravitas, I would reach for an Ultra Pro One-Touch Magnetic Card Holder (35pt) to showcase it on a shelf or desktop, letting that Chrome sheen catch the light at every angle. If you are building a Fantasia mini-collection, an Ultra Pro 9-Pocket Pro-Binder in black lets the card's deep blues and purples take center stage without any visual competition from the binder itself. A small Sorcerer's Hat plush alongside the holder makes for a display that is equal parts charming and collector-serious. Y'-
