Ghostly Secrets & Ethereal Elegance: The 2015 Spectra Vondergeist CGG87 Vinyl Figure

When you're a ghost, you see through people. Literally. Here's my obsession with Spectra Vondergeist.
Spectra Vondergeist is absolutely everything if you're a Monster High fan who gets the assignment of being the one nobody sees. She's a poltergeist - a ghost with serious attitude - and she channels that ethereal energy into being the editor of the Gory Gazette, the school's most feared gossip publication. The 2015 CGG87 vinyl figure I'm featuring today captures exactly why I've been collecting Monster High since middle school: this sculpt is peak character design meets peak fashion.
Spectra's monster heritage as a poltergeist gives her this haunting, mysterious presence. Her pale, ghostly white skin almost looks translucent near the hands and feet, with that characteristic Ghost eye design that feels like she's looking right through you (which, honestly, she probably is). The hair on this doll is absolutely wild - a tri-color blend of lilac, warm purple, and periwinkle that appears to defy gravity itself. The resting design on the hair makes her look like she's literally floating, which is such a genius move for a poltergeist character.
Now let's talk fashion, because Monster High's fashion is everything to me. This figure comes in a black sleeveless top with purple and blue striped accents and three silver chains running down the front - very reporter-chic meets ghostly glam. The pink skirt with black fishnet design and that raw, serrated hem is so her. I absolutely love the silver belt with dangling rings that flow into the skirt - it's those little details that make me go back to the Collectiblz app and mark items like this one because I want to hunt them down. The magenta boots with black laces and silver chain accents complete the look perfectly.
This CGG87 release came during a really special era of Monster High - the mid-G1 years (2010-2018) when the franchise was hitting peak creativity. Spectra first appeared in 2011, and by 2015 she had solidified herself as that iconic, mysterious character floating through the halls hunting for her next scoop. The vinyl format means this figure has real presence on a shelf, and she comes with her spectral ferret sidekick Rhuen, plus accessories like her backpack and tablet. Collector note: later "Boo-riginal Creeproduction" reprints came out, so if you're building your collection, knowing you have that authentic 2015 CGG87 adds something special.
What hooks me every time is how Spectra embodies that core Monster High message - that being different, being mysterious, being the one who sees things others miss, that's not a weakness, that's your superpower. Collecting her makes me feel like I'm honoring that spirit I loved so much as a kid. The 2015 vinyl figure is a stunning display piece, whether you're grouping her with other ghoul friends or giving her pride of place as a solo showcase.
I've got my eye on adding more Spectra variants to my own collection - she's been released in so many iterations across the years. Have you seen this particular 2015 figure? It's one I keep coming back to.
