The 2009 Detroit Tigers Baseball PEZ Dispenser Is the Team Pride Essential Every Baseball Collector Deserves
Warm hello to baseball season and the collectors who celebrate it!
Today I'm looking at a favorite from my own collection - the 2009 Detroit Tigers Baseball PEZ Dispenser. This was the second release in the Tigers MLB line, and it's one of my must-haves for any serious baseball collector's shelf.
The dispenser features the iconic Tigers 'D' logo with the team's mascot - a fierce tiger - centered right on the front. It's a classic baseball card approach: the dispenser head displays the logo proudly, while the back of the packaging includes detailed information about Tiger Stadium and a holographic MLB sticker. The plastic molding is solid, the paint work on the tiger is sharp with good detail on the stripes and face.
What makes this 2009 release special is the timing. It came out during that fantastic era when PEZ was releasing full MLB sets every year, giving fans of all 30 teams something to chase. The Detroit Tigers dispenser fit perfectly into that lineup, launched in late 2009 through early 2010. Collectors who started gathering the baseball series back then often grabbed this one right alongside the Yankees, Red Sox, and Cubs versions.
There's something magnetic about baseball-themed dispensers - they bridge two big collector communities. Baseball fans who don't collect PEZ suddenly see an affordable, shelf-ready piece of memorabilia. Meanwhile, PEZ completists chase every team release like it's the pennant race itself.
The condition matters here. Mint-on-card examples are becoming harder to find as these dispensers head into their second decade. Most loose dispensers are still in fantastic shape - the plastic holds up well and yellowing is minimal. If you're building a baseball set or filling gaps in your Tigers collection, this one delivers both nostalgia and display appeal.
I've got this dispenser marked in my Collectiblz app on my needs list, and I'm on the hunt to upgrade my current example to a nicer mint version. It's one of those collectibles that reminds me why I started this journey in the first place - the joy of the hunt, the thrill of completing a series, and the memories tied to every piece.
If you're a Tigers fan, a baseball collector, or simply love PEZ dispensers with real character (pun intended!), this 2009 release deserves a spot in your rotation.
