McDonald's Happy Meal Trolls World Tour 2020 - Queen Barb Toy

Welcome Back, Collectors - Let's Talk Trolls

Hey there, fellow Happy Meal hunters! If you were grabbing drive-thru in early 2020, you might have spotted some very colorful, very loud, very fun little figures tucked into those iconic red boxes. The McDonald's Happy Meal Trolls World Tour 2020 wave dropped in partnership with the DreamWorks animated film Trolls World Tour, and it gave us one of the more visually striking Kids' Meal toy assortments of that year. Today the spotlight is on Queen Barb - the rock-and-roll villain of the film and honestly one of the standout pieces in the entire wave.

Who Is Queen Barb and Why Does This Toy Work?

Queen Barb is the lead antagonist of Trolls World Tour - a hard-rocking, red-haired troll queen with a guitar made from a human hair and serious stage presence. She leads the Hard Rock Trolls and wants to destroy all music except rock. As a toy, she translates surprisingly well. The figure stands just over two inches tall, which is standard for this wave, and is molded in a sturdy, single-piece hard plastic. Her signature wild red hair is rendered in a tall, jagged design that keeps its shape without any floppiness - a detail that matters more than it might sound when you're sorting through a bin of small figures five years later.

The paint apps are clean at this scale. Her outfit features the black-and-red color scheme from the film, and the face printing is sharp enough to capture the sneer that defines her character. There's no articulation - this is a fixed-pose figure - but the sculpt has real personality. She's posed with attitude: slightly wide stance, arms low, expression locked in that signature "I dare you" look. For a promotional toy, that kind of sculpt work is exactly what earns a piece long-term shelf space.

Queen Barb was one of eight figures distributed across this promotion. The full assortment included Poppy, Branch, Queen Barb, Biggie, Cooper, Guy Diamond, Tiny Diamond, and Creek. Each figure represents a different character from the film and a different Troll tribe, which gave the wave a natural thematic variety. Poppy and Branch are the expected main-attraction pieces - Poppy in particular with her signature pink hair is the kind of toy that moves fast through Happy Meals. But Queen Barb holds her own as the clear "villain figure" of the set, and that role tends to make a piece more desirable over time.

Biggie and Tiny Diamond are fun on the shelf together - the visual scale contrast is immediate even at two-inch size. Guy Diamond's glitter-finish figure is the one most likely to catch light from across a shelf, and Cooper's four-legged form gives the wave a shape break among all the upright humanoid figures. As a complete set, the eight figures display well in a row and tell the story of the film's cast at a glance.

The villain figure in a Kids' Meal wave almost always has the best sculpt. Designers seem to put a little extra care into the character who's supposed to look menacing - and Queen Barb here is no exception. That fixed sneer does more expressive work than half the smiling hero figures in waves three times this size.

Collector Notes

From a collector's standpoint, the Trolls World Tour 2020 wave is a clean, compact set that doesn't require a ton of space to display properly. Eight figures, all under three inches, can line up neatly on a standard shelf or sit together in a small acrylic riser without crowding. The plastic feels solid on each piece - no soft or hollow sections that tend to crack over time. These were clearly made with some durability consideration, which matters when you're hunting them down used years after the promotion ended.

Play value is modest since there's no articulation or action feature, but the figures hold their own as display pieces. Kids who were fans of the film still respond well to them, and adult collectors with a DreamWorks focus will want this wave in a complete run. The character variety across tribes - Pop, Rock, Techno, Classical, Country, Funk - mirrors the film's premise well enough that a completed set actually tells a visual story even without context.

Queen Barb in particular has held interest in the secondary market as the most distinctive character in the wave. The villain premium is real - she's the piece most often sought individually after the promotion ended. If you're building a complete run, she tends to be the one you find separately rather than pulling from a lot.

I've had Queen Barb on my want list in the Collectiblz app for a while now - she's the one gap in my Trolls World Tour set, and tracking her down through the app has made it easy to check off the others while keeping an eye out for her specifically. If you're chasing this set or any other wave, Collectiblz is a great way to stay organized and know exactly what you still need.

Display and Storage Tips

For a wave this compact and colorful, a single acrylic riser works well - arrange by height or group by tribe depending on your preference. The bright colors of the Trolls characters (Poppy's hot pink, Queen Barb's deep red, Guy Diamond's silver glitter) give the display natural visual pop without needing any additional props. If you're shelving by chain or franchise, these play nicely alongside other DreamWorks-adjacent Happy Meal sets. A shallow bin or divided tray keeps the complete set accessible without risk of scratching the paint on the smaller figures. Avoid stacking these face-down - the hair sculpts, especially on Queen Barb and Poppy, can get dusty in corners.
