2025 COSMOS Disney: Base Set Joe Gardner (CDT-B-198) - Finding Your Purpose!
Finding Your Purpose in the COSMOS
Welcome back, fellow Disney collectors! There's something truly magical about discovering a card that speaks to your heart, isn't there? Today I'm thrilled to introduce you to one of my absolute favorite finds from the 2025 COSMOS Disney collection: card CDT-B-198, Joe Gardner. If you haven't had your hands on a COSMOS card yet, prepare yourself-they're absolutely stunning.
This gorgeous Base Set card features Joe Gardner, the inspirational jazz musician and middle-school band teacher who captured our hearts in Pixar's Soul (2020). When I first laid eyes on this card, I immediately thought of that moment in the film where Joe finally gets to experience that feeling he'd been chasing his whole life. It's not just a card; it's a reminder of why we collect Disney memorabilia in the first place-to hold onto the characters and stories that move us.
Joe Gardner: A Character Who Teaches Us
Let me tell you why Joe Gardner is so incredibly special. He's Pixar's first African-American lead character in a feature film, and that representation matters. Voiced beautifully by Jamie Foxx, Joe is a 46-year-old middle-school band teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge of jazz history. But here's what makes him truly unforgettable: his unwavering confidence in his musical abilities and his gift for inspiring those around him, even when they seem unmotivated or disinterested.
What I absolutely adore about Joe's character is his complexity. On the surface, he's a dedicated teacher. But underneath, there's this burning passion-a dream of performing professional jazz that's been deferred for years. His journey in Soul takes him to the "Great Before," where he learns one of life's most profound lessons: fulfillment comes not from chasing a single dream, but from fully engaging with life itself. Every moment matters. Every interaction shapes who we become.
"Joe Gardner reminds us that the music in life isn't always a grand performance on a stage-sometimes it's found in the quiet moments we share with the people we care about."
The 2025 COSMOS Disney Collection
If you haven't discovered the COSMOS Disney series yet, you're in for a treat! Released by Kakawow on July 4, 2025, this collection is absolutely massive. We're talking about a 210-card Base Set featuring characters from Disney classics all the way through to modern favorites. Mickey, Minnie, Moana, Raya, Luca, Zootopia characters-they're all here, beautifully illustrated.
The set structure is collector-friendly too. Each box contains 10 packs with 5 cards per pack, and here's the exciting part: each box includes not just chase cards but an Activity Coupon as well. The entire collection is limited to just 8,000 cases worldwide, making these cards genuinely special. That scarcity is part of what makes collecting COSMOS cards so rewarding.
The Base Set and Collection Building
Card CDT-B-198 Joe Gardner is part of the prestigious Base Set, and collectors like us know that Base Set cards are the foundation of any great collection. They're the cards that establish the core of your gathering, and when you're holding a Base Set card of a character as meaningful as Joe Gardner, you're holding something worth preserving.
What I love about collecting Base Set cards from COSMOS is the consistency in quality. The illustrations are gorgeous, the borders are crisp, and each card feels premium. Joe Gardner's card captures his essence perfectly-whether he's dressed in his classic outfit or shown in a moment that reflects his character's depth.
Display and Protection
For a card this beautiful, proper protection is essential. I always recommend Ultra Pro products for storing and displaying your treasured cards. A sturdy top loader keeps CDT-B-198 safe from everyday wear, and if you want to show it off, an Ultra Pro frame or wall mount is perfect for displaying Joe Gardner proudly on your shelf. With COSMOS cards being limited print run items, these deserve to be displayed where you can appreciate them daily.
Whether you're keeping your card in a protective sleeve, a binder, or a museum-quality display case, make sure it's stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Your future self (and your collection's future value) will thank you.
